The oldest and most experienced prefabricated timber house producer in Estonia
Matek, established in 1988, has exported buildings to different markets and carried out complex projects that include residential districts, apartment blocks, summer house districts, kinder gardens and office buildings during its existence.
Here you can find most important facts in Matek’s history:
- 26.02.1988 Establishment of the Matek S.P. Joint Enterprise. 57% of the share capital of Matek was owned by the Estonian Collective Farm Construction Republican Association and 43% to the Finnish YIT Corporation.
- 19.06.1989 Inauguration of the plant. Matek became the first Estonian company engaged in industrial production of sealing foam, wall panels filled with polyurethane thermal insulation and nail plate frames.
- 1989 One of first major export contracts. 20 dwelling houses were produced and shipped to the earthquake area in Spitak, Armenia
- 1990 Matek started to export to Poland
- 1992 50,000 m2 of wall and floor elements were shipped to the Surgut Oil Company in Siberia
- 1992 The joint enterprise was reorganised into a public limited company and export to Sweden started
- 1993 A contract on quality inspection was signed with the German inspection institution IBMB TU Braunschweig, exports to the German market started (row houses and one-family houses)
- 1995-2000 4 SOS Children’s Villages, ordered by SOS-Kinderdorf International (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Russia. The projects included dwelling houses, kindergartens and schools
- 17.01.1997 IBMB TU Braunschweig issued the certificate of conformity to DIN 1052 standard to the production of Matek.
- 1997 Beginning of exports to the Norwegian market
- 1999 The first project of modular unit building was implemented – for the University of Trondheim (Norway)
- 2004 Beginning of exports to the market of Iceland
- 2005 Provision of turn-key construction services in large volumes was started in Estonia (Alasniidu residential area with 78 row house apartments and 20 one-family houses)
- 2006 Bureau Veritas issued the ISO 9001:2000 certificate to the Matek quality management system of design, production and distribution of timber frame constructions.
- 2007 Matek’s part of Estonian Golf and Country Club development completed
- 2009 Technical Approval by NBI Sinteff Byggforsk issued to Matek. Matek’s quality management system re-certificated by Bureau Veritas according to ISO 9001:2008 requirements
